Food Problem in Bangladesh

Introduction: Food problem is one of the acute (প্রকট) problems in our country. It means the shortage (ঘাটতি) of basic food supply compared to the population. In fact, food problem or food crisis is acute not only in Bangladesh but also throughout the world.

Its causes: There are a good many reasons behind the food crisis in our country. Firstly, ours is a small but populous country. So it is simply difficult for us to provide the people with sufficient (পর্যাপ্ত) food. Secondly, our cultivable (চাষযোগ্য) land area is reducing day by day. Because the increasing number of people needs habitat (আবাসন) and so they are occupying the farmlands (আবাদি জমি). As a result, our area of farmland is getting insufficient gradually. Thirdly, ours is not a developed country.

The cultivation of food crops of Bangladesh largely depends on the whim of nature. Because the farmers do not know the scientific (বিজ্ঞানসম্মত) method of cultivation. That is why, they cannot grow much crops compared to the production of the developed countries. Fourthly, our farmers are very neglected (অবহেলিত) by the govt. and the authorities concerned. They do not get much help, financial assistance and other facilities. So they are not encouraged (উৎসাহিত) to do better in growing more food crops.

Its effects: Food is the first basic need of man. So the shortage of food causes some fundamental (মৌলিক) problem for us. It creates instability (অস্থিতিশীলতা) in society and nation. Because due to food problem people have to suffer from malnutrition (অপুষ্টি) and many other diseases. It hinders the overall development of human resources.

Its remedy: To solve (সমাধান) the existing food problem is a crying need. To do so we have to take some effective initiatives (পদক্ষেপ). Firstly, the growth rate of population must be controlled. Secondly, our area of cultivable land should not be allowed to reduce. Thirdly, we have to introduce and practice the scientific method of cultivation. For this purpose our farmers have to be trained and skilled. Fourthly, our farmers should be evaluated duly and they should be given sufficient facilities. Above all our farmers should be honored and encouraged to grow more food crops.

Conclusion: No society or nation can go a long way through food crisis. So this problem must be solved at any rate. For this purpose the govt as well as the authorities concerned will have to take necessary steps. Besides, all of us have to be conscious and ardent to get rid of this problem.

বাংলাদেশে খাদ্য সমস্যা

সূচনা: খাদ্য সমস্যা আমাদের দেশে অন্যতম প্রকট সমস্যা। এর অর্থ হলো জনসংখ্যার তুলনায় মৌলিক খাদ্য সরবরাহে ঘাটতি। বস্তুত, খাদ্য সমস্যা বা খাদ্য সংকট শুধু বাংলাদেশেই নয়, বিশ্বের সর্বত্রই রয়েছে।

এর কারণসমূহ: আমাদের দেশে খাদ্য সমস্যার অনেক কারণ রয়েছে।

প্রথমত, আমাদের দেশ ছোট কিন্তু এটা জনসংখ্যাবহুল দেশ। তাই জনসাধারণের জন্য পর্যাপ্ত খাদ্যের যোগান দেওয়া সত্যিই কঠিন/ কষ্টকর।

দ্বিতীয়ত, আমাদের চাষযোগ্য জমির পরিমাণ দিন দিন কমছে। কারণ, বর্ধিত জনসংখ্যার আবাসনের প্রয়োজন হয় এবং তাই তারা আবাদি জমিতে বাসগৃহ নির্মাণ করছে। ফলে আমাদের কৃষিজমির পরিধি ক্রমশ কমে আসছে।

তৃতীয়ত, আমাদের দেশ উন্নত দেশ নয়। বাংলাদেশের খাদ্যশস্য চাষাবাদ প্রধানত নির্ভর করে প্রকৃতির খুশির উপর। কারণ কৃষকরা চাষাবাদের বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতি সম্বন্দ্বে জানে না। সে কারণে তারা উন্নত দেশগুলোর তুলনায় অধিকতর শস্য উৎপাদন করতে পারে না।

চতুর্থত, আমাদের কৃষকরা সরকার ও সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষ কর্তৃক খুব অবহেলিত। তারা বেশি সাহায্য, আর্থিক সহাযতা এবং অন্যান্য সুবিধা পায় না। তাই তারা অধিক শস্য উৎপাদনের জন্য অধিকতর ভালো কিছু করতে উৎসাহী হয় না।

এর প্রভাব: খাদ্য হচ্ছে মানুষের প্রথম মৌলিক চাহিদা। তাই খাদ্য ঘাটতি আমাদের জন্য কতিপয় মৌলিক সমস্যার সৃষ্টি করে। এটা সমাজে ও জাতির ভেতর অস্থিতিশীলতা সৃষ্টি করে। কারণ খাদ্য সমস্যার কারণে মানুষকে অপুষ্টি ও অন্যান্য অনেক রোগে ভুগতে হয়। এটা মানবসম্পদের সঠিক উন্নয়ন ব্যাহত করে।

এর প্রতিকার: বিদ্যমান খাদ্য সমস্যার সমাধান করা একটি জরুরি বিষয়। আর তা করতে হলে আমাদেরকে কিছু ফলপ্রসূ পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করতে হবে।

প্রথমত, জনসংখ্যা বৃদ্ধির হার নিয়ন্ত্রণে আনতে হবে।

দ্বিতীয়ত, আমাদের চাষযোগ্য জমির পরিমাণ কমতে দেওয়া যাবে না।

তৃতীয়ত, আমাদের উচিত বৈজ্ঞানিক পদ্ধতির চাষাবাদ প্রবর্তন ও অনুশীলন করা। এর জন্য আমাদের কৃষককদের প্রশিক্ষিত ও দক্ষ করে তুলতে হবে।

চতুর্থত, আমাদের কৃষকদের মূল্যায়ন করতে হবে এবং তাদেরকে পর্যাপ্ত সুযোগ-সুবিধা দিতে হবে।

সর্বোপরি, আমাদের কৃষকদের অধিক খাদ্যশস্য ফলানোর জন্য উৎসাহিত ও সম্মানিত করতে হবে।

উপসংহার: খাদ্য সংকটের ভেতর দিয়ে কোন সমাজ বা জাতি বেশি দূর এগোতে পারে না। সুতরাং যেকোন উপায়ে এ সমস্যার সমাধান করতে হবে। এ উদ্দেশ্যে সরকার ও সংশ্লিষ্ট কর্তৃপক্ষকে প্রয়োজনীয় পদক্ষেপ গ্রহণ করতে হবে। তাছাড়া, আমাদের সবাইকে এ সমস্যা থেকে মুক্ত হওয়ার জন্য সচেতন ও উৎসাহী হতে হবে।
