Introduction: Bangladesh is called the land of six seasons. All the six seasons have different features and particular scenario. Among them the rainy season is really a special one by dint of its unique features.

Its duration: The rainy season is the second season of the Bengali year. According to Bengali calendar, it comprises two months Ashar and Shravan. But in reality, the season lasts much longer than those. Actually it lasts up to Ashwin (আশ্বিন),

Description: During the rainy season the environment looks soft and green. The trees and plants look so vivid. The weather remains dim. The sky is generally covered with thick cloud (ঘন মেঘ). Sometimes the sun is not seen for quite a long time. During this season it rains cats and dogs. As a result, ponds, tanks, carnals and rivers are full to the brim.

Advantages: The rainy season comes with a refreshing (তৃণভূমি) shower to cool the hot-looking nature. Green leaves are seen to beautify (সুন্দর করা) the outlook of nature. The meadows are carpeted with soft green. The farmers are the real beneficiary (সুবিধাভোগী) of the rainy season. Because they get their long cherished water for irrigation. With the help of this rainwater, they are encouraged to grow more crops like paddy, jute, sugarcane, tea and many other seasonal crops. Rain washes away the filth and dirt from the earth's surface. Disadvantages Despite some great advantages (সুবিধা), the rainy season also has some disadvantages (অসুবিধা). It is a curse to the poor working class people. Because they have no work and no money to lead their lives. Besides, the shelter less people also have to suffer a lot. The roads get muddy and slippery in the rural areas. বর্ণনা: বর্ষাকালে পরিবেশকে দেখায় কোমল ও শ্যামল। গাছপালা ও উদ্ভিদকুলকে দেখায় বৈচিত্র্যময়। আবহাওয়া থাকে বিষণ্ণ। আকাশ সচরাচর ঘন মেঘে ঢাকা থাকে। কখনো কখনো দীর্ঘ সময় সূর্যের দেখা পাওয়া যায় না। বর্ষা মৌসুমে মুষলধারে বৃষ্টি হয়। ফলস্বরূপ, পুকুর, দীঘি, খাল, নদ-নদী কানায় কানায় পূর্ণ হয়।

সুবিধাসমূহ: বর্ষাকালের আগমন ঘটে উত্তপ্ত প্রকৃতিকে শীতলকারী সতেজতাপূর্ণ বর্ষণধারা দিয়ে। কচিপাতাকে দেখা যায় প্রকৃতির বহিরাবরণকে সুশোভিত করতে। তৃর্ণভূমিগুলো সবুজ ঘাসের গালিচা বিছিয়ে দেয়। কৃষকরাই হচ্ছেন বর্ষা ঋতুর প্রধান সুবিধাভোগী। কারণ তারা সেচের বহু প্রত্যাশিত পানি পেয়ে যান। এই বৃষ্টির পানির সহায়তায় তারা ধান, পাট, আখ, চা-এর মতো ফসল এবং আরও অনেক মৌসুমী শস্য অধিক পরিমাণে উৎপাদন করতে উৎসাহিত হয়। বৃষ্টিপাত পৃথিবী পৃষ্ঠ থেকে ময়লা ও মল-মূত্র ধুয়ে নিয়ে যায়। এটা প্রাকৃতিক পরিবেশকেও বিশুদ্ধ করে তোলে।

অসুবিধাসমূহ: কিছু বড় বড় সুবিধা থাকা সত্ত্বেও বর্ষা ঋতুর কিছু অসুবিধাও রয়েছে। গরীব শ্রমজীবি শ্রেণীর লোকদের কাছে এ এক অভিশাপ। কারণ জীবন নির্বাহের মতো তাদের থাকে না কোনো কাজকর্ম, কোনো টাকা-পয়সা। তাছাড়া, আশ্রয়হীন লোকদেরও ব্যাপক দুর্ভোগের শিকার হতে হয়। গ্রামাঞ্চলের রাস্তা-ঘাট কর্দমাক্ত ও পিচ্ছিল হয়ে পড়ে। অধিকন্তু, অতিরিক্ত বৃষ্টিপাতের ফলে প্রায়শ বন্যা দেখা দেয়। আর বন্যা জনসাধারণের জন্য ভয়ানক দুর্ভোগ বয়ে আনে।
