The word 'discipline comes from the Latin word 'discipulus', 'Discipulus' means a disciple. A disciple carries out the orders of his preceptor without any question. Hence, discipline is a moral obligation and quality. In its broader sense, it means obedience to some rules of conduct in a society.

Man lives in society with many other people. He cannot do whatever he likes. If he does so, there will arise various disorder and chaos in the society. So discipline is essential for peace and happiness in a society. It is necessary in every walk of our life.

Discipline is vitally necessary in every home. In a family, the members should obey their head. If they do not do so, a home will be a chaotic place.

In schools and colleges, discipline is greatly necessary. Lack of it disturbs their smooth functioning and hampers progress. Discipline among the students is a compulsory need. It helps the proper acquisition and imparting of knowledge in any school or college.

In nature or in the universe, discipline is maintained without any breach. The sun, the moon, all other planets and their satellites follow certain law and discipline. They move along their own orbits; do not trespass them.

A playground is also a good place of discipline. A player has to obey the rules of the games and sports, of the referee or the umpire. In a match, discipline is the key to success.

In every walk of life, in all offices, business concerns and courts discipline is a must for their proper functioning.

There is the strictest discipline in the army. Of course, it is a forced discipline. Without it, no army can work well or win a battle. In army, 'There's not to reason to why".

No government can function well for a single day without it. No industry can work smoothly without discipline among its workers.

Thus it is seen that discipline is an obligatory element everywhere in the world. In modern times, its need has increased. It is the root of all other essential virtues for man. Discipline draws the sharp line of distinction between men and beasts. So we should always observe discipline in every step of our life.
