Deforestation refers to the cutting and burning down of forests at random. It is just opposite to the concept of tree plantation. In a word, it is the destruction of trees and plants of our environment. It has many adverse effects on our environment and our life. It destroys the ecological balance of our environment and our life. Due to deforestation, many species of birds and animals have already been extinct and many of them are faced with the threat of extinction. Because of deforestation, it does not rain adequately and this causes long term drought. This drought may turn the whole country into a desert. Apart from this, deforestation also hampers our agricultural production. In fact, our environment is going to be uninhabitable for deforestation. However, there is one away to save ourselves and our environment from it and that is, we should start a mass campaign for tree plantation. For this, we should raise awareness among the mass people about the adverse sides of deforestation as well as about the importance of tree plantation. My suggestion, in this regard, is that we should plant at least one tree every month and if we cut one, we should plant three. I think each man or woman, old or young should come forward and plant at least one tree to save our existence.

বৃক্ষনিধন বলতে বেপরোয়াভাবে গাছপালা কেটে ফেলা এবং পুড়িয়ে ফেলাকে বোঝায়। এটি বৃক্ষরোপণের বিপরীত ধারণা। এক কথায়, এটি হচ্ছে আমাদের পরিবেশের গাছপালার ধ্বংস সাধন। এটির অনেক বিরূপ প্রভাব আছে আমাদের পরিবেশ ও জীবনের ওপর। আমাদের জীবন ও পরিবেশের বাস্তুগত ভারসাম্য নষ্ট করে। বৃক্ষনিধনের কারণে অনেক প্রজাতির পাখি ও প্রাণী ইতোমধ্যে বিলুপ্ত হয়েছে এবং তাদের অনেকেই বিলুপ্ত হওয়ার হুমকীর সম্মুখীন। বৃক্ষনিধনের কারণে পর্যাপ্ত বৃষ্টিপাত হয় না এবং এটি দীর্ঘমেয়াদি খরার সৃষ্টি করে। এ খরা সমগ্র দেশটাকে মরুভূমিতে পরিণত করতে পারে। এর বাইরেও বৃক্ষনিধন আমাদের কৃষি উৎপাদনকে বাধাগ্রস্ত করে। মূলত, বৃক্ষনিধনের ফলে আমাদের পরিবেশ বসবাসের অনুপযোগী হয়ে যাচ্ছে। যা হোক আমাদেরকে এবং আমাদের বসবাসের পরিবেশকে এটা থেকে রক্ষা করার একটা উপায় আছে এবং তা হলো বৃক্ষরোপণের জন্য আমাদেরকে একটি গণঅভিযান পরিচালনা করতে হবে। আর এজন্য বৃক্ষনিধনের ক্ষতিকর প্রভাব এবং গুরুত্ব সম্পর্কে মানুষের মনে সচেতনতা জাগ্রত করতে হবে। এক্ষেত্রে আমার পরামর্শ হচ্ছে যে, আমাদেরকে প্রতিমাসে একটি করে গাছ রোপণ করতে হবে এবং আমরা যদি একটি গাছ কাটি তবে আমাদেরকে তিনটি গাছ রোপন করতে। আমি মনে করি প্রত্যেক নারী অথবা পুরুষ, তরুণ বা বৃদ্ধদের এগিয়ে আসা উচিত এবং আমাদের অস্তিত্বের জন্য কমপক্ষে একটি করে গাছ রোপণ করা উচিত।
