The surroundings in which a person, animal or plant lives is called environment. There are many elements in our environment. Air, water, soil, plants, animals, etc. are such elements. They are essential for the environment as well as human beings. These elements should be sound for our sound living. But when they are polluted and their essential balarice is disrupted, this phenomenon is known as environmental pollution. Nowadays, almost everywhere, our environment is being seriously polluted. In many places in our country, the environment has become extremely polluted. We ourselves are responsible for this severe pollution. Industries and factories emit huge amount of smoke, gases and fume. Motor vehicles also emit large amount of smoke and gases. All these pollute air seriously and polluted air is very harmful for us. Water is polluted due to dumping of industrial wastes and by chemical fertilizers and insecticides which are washed away into rivers and canals. Due to the indiscriminate use of vehicle horns, loud speakers, mikes, etc. sound is polluted. Soil is polluted by harmful chemical fertilizers and insecticides. Besides, people are cutting down trees at random. All these are causing environmental pollution. Consequently, man becomes sick, animals and fishes are reducing, global warming is increasing, polar icecaps are melting, frequent floods are occurring and so on. We all should be aware of this harmful pollution and take effective measures to check it.

পরিবেশ দূষণ

চারপাশ যেখানে একজন মানুষ, পশু অথবা উদ্ভিদ বাস করে তাকে পরিবেশ বলে। আমাদের পরিবেশে অনেক উপাদান আছে। বাতাস, পানি, মাটি, জীবজন্তু ইত্যাদি হলো এসব উপাদান। এরা মানুষ এবং পরিবেশের জন্য প্রয়োজনীয়। এসব উপাদান সুস্থ জীবনযাপনের জন্য উপযুক্ত হওয়া উচিত। কিন্তু যখন এগুলো দূষিত হয় এবং প্রয়োজনীয় ভারসাম্য বিঘ্নিত হয় তখন এ ঘটনাকে পরিবেশ দূষণ বলা হয়। আজকাল প্রায় সর্বত্র আমাদের পরিবেশ মারাত্মকভাবে দূষিত হচ্ছে। আমাদের দেশের অনেক জায়গায় পরিবেশ মাত্রাতিরিক্তভাবে দূষিত হয়েছে। এই ভয়াবহ দূষণের জন্য আমরাই দায়ী। শিল্প-কারখানা ধোঁয়া, গ্যাস ও বাষ্প নির্গত করে। মটরযানও অনেক ধোঁয়া ও গ্যাস নির্গত করে। এসব মারাত্মকভাবে বায়ু দূষণ ঘটায় এবং দূষিত বায়ু আমাদের জন্য ক্ষতিকর। শিল্পের বর্জ্য পদার্থ নিক্ষেপ থেকে পানি দূষিত হয় এবং রাসায়নিক সার ও কীটনাশক নদী এবং খালের পানিতে মিশে পানি দূষিত করে। নির্বিচারে যানবাহনের হর্ন, লাউড স্পিকার, মাইক ইত্যাদির কারণে শব্দ দূষণ হয়। মাটি দূষিত হয় ক্ষতিক্ষারক রাসায়নিক সার, কীটনাশক, ব্যবহার এর কারণে। পাশাপাশি মানুষ নির্বিচারে গাছপালা কাটছে। এসবই পরিবেশ দূষণ ঘটাচ্ছে। আর এ দূষণের কারণে মানুষ অসুস্থ হচ্ছে, জীবজন্তু এবং মাছ কমছে, বিশ্বব্যাপী তাপমাত্রা বাড়ছে, বরফ আবরণ গলছে এবং ঘনঘন বন্যাসহ অনেক কিছুই ঘটছে। আমাদের সকলের এ ক্ষতিকর দূষণ সম্পর্কে সচেতন হওয়া উচিত এবং এটি নিয়ন্ত্রণের জন্য কার্যকরী পদক্ষেপ নেওয়া উচিত।
