Our National Flag

A national flag is the symbol of a nation's sovereignty or independent identity. It introduces the country to the whole world. Every independent country has a national flag of its own. We have our own national flag. Our national flag is the greatest achievement in our national life. It is our pride and glory. In 1971, we achieved a new independent country named Bangladesh and her flag. Our flag is green with a red circle at the center. The green color symbolizes the peaceful youthfulness of this green country and the red circle symbolizes the sun of freedom. The proportion of the length and breadth of our flag is 10:6 and the radius of the red sun is one fifth of its length. On our government office buildings, the national flag is hoisted. In the other countries where there are our high commission offices, our flag is hoisted, In the UNO our country's flag is also hoisted. Even while our army personnel on their duty in peace-keeping missions in foreign countries also bear the flag. Our president, prime minister and other ministers move in flagged cars. We are determined to keep its respect high at any cost.

জাতীয় পতাকা একটি জাতির সার্বভৌমত্ব আর স্বাধীন সত্ত্বার প্রতীক। এটা দেশকে সমগ্র বিশ্বে পরিচিত করে। প্রত্যেক স্বাধীন রাষ্ট্রের নিজস্ব একটি জাতীয় পতাকা রয়েছে। আমাদের নিজেদের জাতীয় পতাকা আছে। আমাদের জাতীয় পতাকা আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনের এক বিরাট অর্জন। এটা আমাদের অহংকার, আমাদের গৌরব। ১৯৭১ সালে আমরা বাংলাদেশ নামে একটি নতুন রাষ্ট্র এবং একটি পতাকা পাই। আমাদের পতাকা লালবৃত্তসহ সবুজ রং এর। সবুজ রং শান্তিকামী তারুণ্যের প্রতীক এবং লাল রং স্বাধীনতার সূর্যের প্রতীক। এর দৈর্ঘ্য ও প্রস্থের অনুপাত ১০১৬ এবং লাল সূর্যের ব্যাসার্ধ দৈর্ঘ্যের এক পঞ্চমাংশ। আমাদের সরকারি কার্যালয়ে জাতীয় পতাকা উত্তোলন করা হয়। যে সব দেশে আমাদের দূতাবাস বা হাই কমিশন অফিস আছে সেখানে আমাদের পতাকা উত্তোলন করা হয়। জাতিসংঘেও আমাদের পতাকা উত্তোলন করা হয়। এমনকী আমাদের সেনাবাহিনী বিদেশে শান্তিরক্ষা মিশনে কাজ করার সময়ও পতাকা বহন করে। আমাদের রাষ্ট্রপতি, প্রধানমন্ত্রী, মন্ত্রিবর্গ পতাকাবাহী গাড়িতে চলাচল করেন। আমরা যেকোনো মূল্যে জাতীয় পতাকার সম্মান রাখতে দৃঢ় প্রতিজ্ঞ।
