The Padma Bridge

The Padma Bridge is a multipurpose bridge constructed across the mighty Padma. It is the most challenging construction project in the history of Bangladesh. This bridge has linked the south-west zone of the country to the northern and eastern regions. The bridge is 6150 metre long and 18.18 metre wide. It is the largest bridge in the country. It contains a four-lane highway on the upper and a single track railway on the lower level. The Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project has acquired 1062.14 hectares of land for its components. About 44,000 square kilometre, or 29% of the total area of Bangladesh will be directly benefitted from the project. The bridge will significantly contribute to the social, economic and industrial development. Thus, it will benefit over 30 million people. The government of Bangladesh has funded the total cost of the bridge. China Major Engineering Company Ltd. was assigned to execute the project. The construction began on 7 December 2014 and it was inaugurated on 25 June 2022. It is assumed that the Padma Bridge will boost the GDP of Bangladesh by as much as 1.2 percent.

পদ্মা সেতু

পদ্মা সেতু হচ্ছে প্রমত্তা পদ্মার ওপর নির্মিত একটি বহুমুখী সেতু। বাংলাদেশের ইতিহাসে এটি সবচেয়ে দুঃসাহসিক অবকাঠামো নির্মাণ প্রকল্প। সেতুটি দেশের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিমাঞ্চলকে উত্তর-পূর্বাঞ্চলের সাথে একত্রিত করেছে। সেতুটি দৈর্ঘ্যে ৬.১৫ কি.মি. এবং প্রস্থে ১৮.১৮ মি.। এটাই দেশের সর্ববৃহৎ সেতু। সেতুর উপরিভাগ চার লেনের সড়কপথ এবং নিম্নভাগে একটি রেল সড়ক আছে। পদ্মা বহুমুখী সেতু প্রকল্পটি নির্মাণকাজ পরিচালনা ও দেখভালের জন্য ১০৬২.১৪ হেক্টর জমি অধিগ্রহণ করা হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশের প্রায় ৪৪,০০০ বর্গ কি.মি. বা মোট ভূ-ভাগের ২৯% প্রত্যক্ষভাবে এই সেতু দ্বারা উপকৃত হবে। এই সেতু দেশের সামাজিক, অর্থনৈতিক এবং শিল্পায়নের বিকাশে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করবে। তিন কোটিরও বেশি মানুষ এতে উপকৃত হবে। সেতুটি নির্মাণে বাংলাদেশ সরকার পুরো ব্যয়ভার বহন করে। চায়না মেজর ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিং কোম্পানি লি. প্রকল্পটি বাস্তবায়ন করে। ২০১৪ সালের ৭ ডিসেম্বর প্রকল্পটির নির্মাণ কাজ শুরু হয় এবং ২০২২ সালের ২৫ জুন এটি উদ্বোধন করা হয়। ধারণা করা হচ্ছে বাংলাদেশের জিডিপিকে সেতুটি শতকরা ১.২ হারে বৃদ্ধি করতে সক্ষম হবে।
