A Traffic Jam I Experienced

'Traffic jam' has become one of the mostly used buzzwords in recent days. Traffic jam means a long queue of vehicles on a road. The city dwellers very often become the victims of this nuisance. Traffic jam creates lots of problems and sufferings to the people, especially to the dwellers of a megacity like Dhaka. It has become a part and parcel of the people living in Dhaka. As a dweller of Dhaka City I am also a sufferer of traffic jam. Very often I experience traffic jam on the both ways, while I go to my school and when I return home. But once I faced a most terrible traffic jam in my life. It was a rainy day and it was a Thursday afternoon. My school broke at 4.30 p.m. and I got into a bus as I usually do every day. My school is at Kakrail and my residence is on Badda Link road. It took me two and a half hours to get on and fly over the Shantinagar-Malibagh Flyover. I am very much accustomed to traffic jam as I face it more or less everyday but that one, was the most terrific traffic jam in my life. I started my journey at about 4.40 p.m. and I got down from the bus at about 7.30 p.m. I always enjoy the rainy days but I hardly could tolerate the rain of that day, let alone enjoy it. Every minute seemed to be an hour and every hour a day to me. I only got relief when I got down from the bus.

যানজট (আমার একটি যানজটের অভিজ্ঞতা)

'যানযট' এখন প্রতিটি মানুষের মুখে মুখে। যানযট বলতে আমরা সড়কপথে গাড়ির লম্বা সারিকে বুঝে থাকি। শহরের অধিবাসীরা প্রায়শই এই দুর্নিপাকের খপ্পরে পড়ে থাকে। ঢাকা শহরের মতো বড় বড় মেগাসিটিতে যানযট জনজীবনে অনেক সমস্যা আর দুর্ভোগ বয়ে আনে। ঢাকাবাসীদের জীবনের সাথে যানযট ওতপ্রোতভাবে জড়িয়ে গেছে। স্কুলে যাওয়া এবং আসার পথে প্রতিদিনই আমাকে যানযটের অভিজ্ঞতা নিতে হয়। কিন্তু একদিন আমি আমার জীবনের সবচেয়ে ভয়াবহ যানযটে পড়েছিলাম। এটা ছিল বর্ষণমুখর কোনো এক বৃহস্পতিবারের বিকেল। আমার স্কুল ৪:৩০ টায় ছুটি হলে প্রতিদিনকার মতো আমি তখনই একটি বাসে উঠে পড়ি। আমার স্কুল কাকরাইলে আর আমার বাসা বাড্ডা লিংক রোডে। ঐদিন কেবল শান্তিনগর-মালিবাগ উড়লসেতু পার হতেই আড়াই ঘণ্টা লেগেছিল। যানযটে আমি মোটামুটি অভ্যস্ত হয়ে গেছি যেহেতু প্রতিদিনই কমবেশি যানযটে পড়তে হয় আমাকে। কিছু ঐদিনের অভিজ্ঞতা ছিল সবচেয়ে ভয়ানক। আমি ঐদিন যাত্রা শুরু করেছিলাম ৪টা ৪০ মিনিটে আর বাস থেকে লিংক রোডে নেমেছিলাম সাড়ে সাতটায়। আমি সবসময়ই বৃষ্টির দিন উপভোগ করি কিন্তু ঐদিন অসহনীয় মনে হচ্ছিল, উপভোগ তো দূরের কথা। প্রতিটি মিনিটকে এক একটা ঘন্টা, আর প্রতিটি ঘণ্টাকে মনে হচ্ছিল এক একটা দিন। বাস থেকে নামার পড়েই কেবল আমি হাঁক ছেড়ে বেঁচেছিলাম।
