Road accident has become a daily occurrence in our country. It has increased in number considerably in recent years. The real causes of road accidents lie with the people and not with the mechanized means of transport. Reckless driving and overtaking tendency of the drivers are responsible for most of the accidents. The drivers drive their motorized vehicles at breakneck speed. Sometimes, they lose control over steering and it leads to accidents. Violation of traffic rules by both the pedestrians and the drivers also causes road accidents. The situation becomes worse when the slow-moving rickshaws and carts tussle with cars, buses and trucks. In some cities, roads are too narrow and inadequate. As a result, mismanagement occurs in the system of ever-increasing volume of traffic. Mechanical failures, including faulty brakes and defective tires also result in fatal accidents. Every year, thousands of people die and many more become disabled forever in road accidents. Road accidents also cause material losses including waste of money for the treatment of the injured and repairing the vehicles. Road accidents have become a great menace in our society. Stern steps must be taken to check this danger. Spacious roads should be constructed, and traffic lights should be set up at the key points. Heavy penalty should be imposed on those who violate the traffic rules. Common people should be made aware of the traffic rules.

সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা

সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা আমাদের দেশে একটি নিত্যনৈমিত্তিক ব্যাপার। সাম্প্রতিক বছরগুলোতে এর সংখ্যা ব্যাপকহারে বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে। সড়ক দুর্ঘটনার প্রকৃত কারণ পরিবহনের যান্ত্রিক ব্যবস্থায় নিহিত নয় বরং মানুষের মাঝে নিহিত। অধিকাংশ দুর্ঘটনার জন্য দায়ী হলো বেপরোয়া গাড়িচালানো ও পিছনে ফেলার প্রবণতা। চালকরা তাদের গাড়ি বিপজ্জনক গতিতে চালায়। মাঝে মাঝে তারা নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে ফেলে এবং তা দুর্ঘটনা ঘটায়। পথচারী ও চালক উভয় কর্তৃক যানবাহন চলাচলের নিয়ম ভঙাও সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটায়। পরিস্থিতি আরো খারাপ হয় যখন ধীরগতিসম্পন্ন রিক্সা ও ঠেলাগাড়ি গাড়ি, বাস ও ট্রাকের সাথে পাল্লা দেয়। কিছু কিছু শহরে রাস্তঘাট খুবই সরু ও অপর্যাপ্ত। ফলে ক্রমবর্ধমান যানবাহন ব্যবস্থায় অব্যবস্থাপনা দেখা দেয়। যান্ত্রিক সমস্যা যেমন নষ্ট ব্রেক ও টায়ারের কারণেও মারাত্মক দুর্ঘটনা ঘটে। সড়ক দুর্ঘটনায় প্রতিবছর লাখ লাখ মানুষ মারা যায় এবং অনেকে সারাজীবনের জন্য পঙ্গু হয়ে যায়। এছাড়া, সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা আর্থিক ক্ষতিও করে থাকে যেমন আঘাতপ্রাপ্তদের চিকিৎসা ও যানবাহনের মেরামতের খরচ। সড়ক দুর্ঘটনা আমাদের সমাজের জন্য একটি ভয়াবহ বিপদ হয়ে উঠেছে। এই বিপদ মোকাবিলায় কঠোর পদক্ষেদ গ্রহণ করতে হবে। প্রশস্ত রাস্তা নির্মাণ করতে হবে এবং গুরুত্বপূর্ণ স্থানে ট্রাফিক লাইট বসাতে হবে। যারা ট্রাফিক আইন ভঙ্গ-করবে তাদের কঠিন শাস্তির ব্যবস্থা করতে হবে। সাধারণ জনগণকে ট্রাফিক আইন সম্পর্কে সচেতন করতে হবে।
